Settings and views
A tour of the desktop app's views, Settings sections, project Skills, context-window compaction and usage information.
This page names what you see in the desktop app and points to the guide for each part. The Dashboard page covers sessions, Chat, Terminal UI and pull requests.

Project-level settings are separate: open a project's settings from its sidebar row. See Projects.
Project skills
Project Settings → Skills lists the skills available to the project's agents, grouped as In this project and From your account. Each skill shows whether the project's agent can use it:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| sees it | The agent has the skill. |
| can't see it | The agent will not find it. |
| uses a same-name skill | A different skill with the same name wins. |
| not verified | Tallpine could not confirm it. |
When a skill is missing for an agent, the session shows a notice naming the skills that agent can't see. Project instructions shows whether each of the project's agents finds its instruction file: CLAUDE.md for Claude Code, AGENTS.md for Codex (the two harnesses it checks).
Context window and compaction
A Chat session's context meter shows how full the model's context window is. Click it for details: the Model, the Window, how much is Used, where the agent Compacts at, how much is Left until compaction, and when the conversation was Last compacted. A compaction in progress shows Compacting….
The Auto-compact control in the agent controls sets when Claude Code compacts the conversation on its own. Choose Auto (the agent's default), a percentage of the window, or a Custom %. It is not supported for Codex chats. The stored setting is autoCompactWindow in the agent configuration: a size such as 200k or 1m, or a percentage such as 70%.
Usage
tallpine session usage [id]prints a session's cumulative token usage by model. See the CLI reference.tallpine session topshows the memory each live session uses, largest first.- Under Subscriptions (or, in Developer mode, the Codex account tab under Harness), Codex accounts show their Usage limit and whether capacity is available, near its limit or exhausted. Usage information can be out of date until it is checked again.
- When a Chat session reaches a provider limit, the session shows Usage limit reached.
